北京大学医学部毕业（1959），留校历任助教, 讲师, 副教授, 直至1985。世界华人第一个性学方面的哲学博士（美国，1991）。现任“高级性学研究院”（IASHS，美国旧金山）教授，树德科技大学（STU，台湾高雄）人类性学研究所客座教授。香港大学精神医学系名誉教授。

　　美国ABS、ACS执照性学家，“美国临床性学家院”奠基院士。中国当代优生学、医学逻辑、医学概论、医学社会学、性学、性教育学等领域的主要奠基人。“世界华人性学家协会”（WACS）的发起人和组织者。性学方面的中文代表作：《性激素的发现》（1979，1982），《性情怡人－阮芳赋性学杂论》（2000），《性的报告－21世纪版性知识手册》（2002）；主编：《性知识手册》（1985，1988），“全年龄全方位的科学性教育”（9册，2003），“性学万有文库”（2004 -,37 种）等。
